Structured Literacy Tutoring
Just as a young athlete needs a coach to guide proper form, consistent reps, and progressive challenge—kids with dyslexia need systematic, explicit instruction to build the neural pathways that make reading click. Structured Literacy trains the brain, rep by rep, until skills that once felt impossible become second nature.
My tutoring covers:
Multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham methods
Phonemic and phonological awareness
Syllable types
Morphology (i.e. prefix + base word + suffix)
Orthography (i.e. spelling patterns, word families)
Strategies for learning irregular words
Reading fluency & comprehension building
The Flight Path
-
We begin with a free consultation, where you will have the opportunity to share about your child’s experiences with learning to read and spell, as well as any diagnoses and/or interventions they may already have. I will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about the tutoring services I offer.
-
During the student’s initial session, I will administer an assessment that will assist me in identifying your child’s current levels in the different language areas—such as phonemic/phonological awareness, reading, spelling, handwriting, and high frequency words. The results of this assessment will provide the data I need to create an individualized literacy success plan for your child.
This session will also be used to acquaint your child with my online learning platform.
-
Each lesson typically contains a review of previously taught material and high frequency words, and the introduction of a new concept, with application activities in phonemic awareness, reading, and spelling/writing.
Sessions are delivered online via Zoom. Each one hour session is 1-on-1 and tailored to the needs of your child. In order to make meaningful progress, a minimum of two sessions is required per week. -
Progress is continuously monitored, allowing for frequent adjustments and individualized lesson planning to meet your child’s specific needs. Because instruction follows a diagnostic and prescriptive model, errors are addressed immediately, with ample opportunities for review, guided practice, repetition, and meaningful application.
Tutoring is $75 per one-hour session.
